Whatsoever We Think On

Butterfly rose
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.- Philippians 4:8*

Gerry shot this film at high speed, resulting in the motion of the finch at the feeder to slow down. Fascinating to watch the avians in graceful flight at a speed my mind comprehends.

My husband has family in the south- my heart has been with them with the flooding and tornadoes. But for the Grace of God, it is not I.

Next time, it might be. If I were to write the script for my last days,  the set would be in my garden. Tending my roses, feeding the wild birds and cleaning their fountains.
I would watch the puppies pretend to chase the bunnies that pretend to run away in the nearly endless loop of hide and seek.

To keep me in touch with what is really important, Time Warner would go down, taking rude programming and gossipy gotchas from interfere with preparing  a feast for my family. Since this is my script- the dishes do themselves.

How would you write your last days if you could? Would anyone in their right mind really spend 2 minutes on politics?

  1. No! No one would spend even a Milisecond on Politics. It just seems so unimportant if one is thinking about one's mortality...I'll take the Birds and ALL the other sweet creatures and all of my Cactus plants.....Especially anything that is blooming....A Garden of delights! Being close to nature and listening to the sounds of all the Birdies....!

  3. I smiled at the dishes doing themselves :-) I don't know about my last days; I keep thinking about the day after my last day.

Is that your Mutabilis in that first photo?

  4. Good morning my early birds! Thank you for sharing your words.

Dear Nikki- the Mutablis (Butterfly Rose) is just at the edge of my garden before the hillside drops off. I absolutely adore its informality.

  5. No, not on politics at all! We should all reflect on HIM, the one who has done the most for us, the only one who can save us. Thanks for a very thoughtful post!

  7. Lydia,

I am glad I check your blog every day so I don't miss anything. I have nearly missed a few but I always catch up.
That was a very thoughtful piece. Of course I love seeing your flowers and watching the birds.
That last question I missed until I was reading some of the posts here in comments. So I went back and found the last line. Well that is something to think about but I thought about it for at least a second. lol Yes, I would spend some of my last days working in politics doing what I thought would do the most good. Politics can be bitter and mean so much of the time but it makes the country work. We have the best system in the world and I love trying to help make things better for everyone in my little efforts. I pray that we will once again be the America we all love so much.
You have a wonderful Memorial weekend. John and I are attending a wedding of a very special lady. It should be a wonderful day.
    Hugs, Trisha

  8. Dear Emily and Stephanie, I thank you for dropping by with kind words. Do come back.

Oh, Trisha- You are such a returning angel to this site. You are called to serve our overlapping political philosophy much as God called me to garden and then place ink to paper. Thank you for putting in the hours and effort on behalf of people such as myslef.

To me, politics is the ultimate double edged sword. Both protector and destroyer of what is good.

That quote in the SGV Tribune summed up my stage exit from daily political duty, "When it comes to my principals or my politics, I choose my principals."

I prefer the manure that makes flowers bloom- which is why you have an easier time keeping your manicure up!

  9. L,

I love that quote too. In fact Edda and I used to belong to a breakfast group in Newport Beach called 'Principles Over Politics". I try to live by that politically. I only support and work for those whom I believe have that same philosophy. I think our friends who represent us do live by that too.

LOL Yea, if I worked in the garden I would definitely wear gardening gloves.

    Have a good one!
    XO Trisha
