Heroes

Heroes are men and women who step up to the plate to right a wrong. Not because it is their desire so much as it is our need. I believe I met a hero-in-the-making the other night. His name is James Hosking.

You may recognize this story from this Deputy District Attorney's website:

"On January 21, 2010, Ms. Katie Tagle petitioned Judge Robert Lemkau to modify a custody order to prevent her 9-month old son’s father, Steve Garcia, from having unsupervised visitation with the infant. Judge Lemkau not only ignored the fact that Mr. Garcia had made death threats against Ms. Tagle and her son by phone, e-mail, texts, suicide letters and even short novel, but he also told Ms. Tagle that she was lying! "

"Judge Lemkau ordered Ms. Tagle to turn her baby, Wyatt, over to Garcia and, within 10 days, Garcia had shot Wyatt and himself to death."

If a judge is a person and persons are accountable for the results of their actions, then a judge who ignores a woman whom an officer brings in for protection because actionable, credible threats against a child are tossed with the importance of a candy wrapper at a ball field, must go.

I don't just wish James Hosking good luck. I thank him for running to replace Judge Lemkau. The life of that child can never be replaced. But the judge should be.

James Hosking wasn't the main speaker last evening at the Diamond Bar Republican Women Federated. I didn't expect to be impressed. I was. This is why. He spoke with clarity. A passion dividing right and wrong. A willingness to speak with anyone, anywhere.

When it comes to voting for judges, don't most of us fly a little blind? This is a clear opportunity for the people of San Bernardino County to know who and why they are voting for a judge. To return justice to where it was once denied. To someone who will protect not just the process, but the people.

  2. Glad you liked the post. If it helps him in any way- my favorite function as a writer is to encourage others. Sometimes that means "tough love" - but in this case- there was nothing tough about it.

  5. Now that John and Ken want Judge Lemkau out I think they are really going to beat the drum for James Hosking.

I think James really impressed John and Ken as he has the rest of us.

We will be proud to have James serve our community as a Judge, he is a good man.

  6. Welcome to first time visitors. Nothing is more important in a male candidate for any office than the simple phrase. "He is a good man." Da99erguy- the impression James Hosking left was that he may be a lawyer- but his word and his handshake are as firm as any law.

  7. I wish you all the best with this quest. Kudos to you L for posting this! God Bless Katie Tagle for her horrific loss. It can't be passed off as a "mistake", it's downright criminal!

  8. It is ironically tragic that a MORMON JUDGE SENTENCED A 9 MONTH OLD INFANT TO DEATH without so much as a fair hearing on the facts, when a TYPICAL CONVICTED MURDERER will cost the judicial system over $5 million dollars and an average of 14 YEARS to finally EXECUTE.

What did Judge Lemkau have on his calendar that day that was more important than protecting the life of an innocent child?

WHY WAS JUDGE LEMKAU SO INTENT ON RUSHING THROUGH THE LEGAL PROCESS?
WAS THIS INFANTS LIFE NOT WORTH MORE THAN THE 3 MINUTES HE DEVOTED TO THE HEARING?
Perhaps Judge Lemkau was tired, distracted, overworked, maybe even underpaid (making only $300K+ per year), maybe he was “having a bad day”, maybe he “could not foresee” the consequences of his hasty and ill-considered opinion, PERHAPS HE DID NOT EVEN READ THE PLEADINGS, but whatever excuse he now provides, the fact remains JUDGE LEMKAU SENTENCED AN INNOCENT, 9 MONTH OLD CHILD TO DEATH!

THOSE WHO PROTEST CAPITAL PUNISHMENT MAKE THE ARGUMENT THAT EVEN ONE MISTAKE WILL SENTENCE AN INNOCENT MAN TO THE GALLOWS - - THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT JUDGE LEMKAU DID IN THIS CASE.
THERE IS NO "SECOND CHANCE" FOR THIS BABY - NEITHER SHOULD THERE BE FOR THIS SAD EXCUSE OF A JUDGE.
If this judge honors human life, and especially THE RIGHTS OF INNOCENT CHILDREN HE IS APPOINTED TO PROTECT, he should look deep into his own soul and REMOVE HIMSELF FROM THE COURT, RESIGN HIS POSITION, AND ASK THE FORGIVENESS OF ALL.

Lacking his ability or wisdom to make that decision, THE PUBLIC, AND THE JUDICIAL AUTHORITIES SHOULD MOVE SWIFTLY TO REMOVE JUDGE LEMKAU.

COME NEXT ELECTION DAY, IT IS THE OBLIGATION OF ALL OF THE VOTERS TO REMOVE SADLY DAMAGED JUDGE LEMKAU.
