Poppies are pleasant company. They don't complain about current conditions. They understand their calling- to bring joy. Whatever comes their way, they deal as best they can without complaint.
Poppies are self- starters. They don't wait for instructions to do what needs to be done. While they are independent, they cheerfully accept a helping hand.
1776.45 acres of the California Poppy are in bloom up the hill at the California Poppy Reserve in Antelope Valley. If you've never been- all the information you will need before heading up the hill can be found at http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=627 . Have FUN!

Beautiful photos, Lydia!
ReplyDeleteI did have to chuckle tho! You didn't state the obvious of what I think each time I see or hear the word "Poppy". Opium. That's what comes to mind for me. To be fair, it's not only a beautiful flower but does bring temporary joy to some! :):)
Hugs, Trisha
'morning Trisha- I'm chuckling, too. There are lots of kinds of poppies- opium poppies are a different kind- and color. Maybe I'll do a post on the varieties soon. Or maybe we can just keep it a secret- and push for a referendum to grow- your- own California poppies for medical reasons. The placebo effect would do wonders.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. Love poppies and, in fact, I have a bunch of "California Poppies" growing right here in my yard in Southern Oregon! Ya think they followed me here? When they decide to 'show' I'll take pictures!
